Diversity Mentor for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Welcome to 2012! This past year was a busy year but a very eventful one.  This month I am going to reflect what I have happen last year starting with my new role as a Diversity Mentor.  I was able to go to San Diego for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic- formerly called the American Dietetic Association – Food and Nutrition Conference Expo of 2011 and there I was able to meet with the new Diversity Leaders and Diversity Committee.  Since I have finished my diversity leader’s position, I then had the chance to meeting with the 2011-2012 Diversity Leaders.  This was great to meet with them because it gave us a chance to talk about what their goals are in becoming a leader.  The 2011 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic Conference showcased the Cultural Diversity Symposium track from the Diversity Committee.  This Symposium dealt with a variety of cultural diversity subjects such as Diversity in the Workplace, Diversity in the Media, and Health Disparities: Bridging the Culture Gap in Your Community.  It was again a excellent conference and the symposium certainly met my expectations and more.  The Closing Session was Jack Canfield who discuss about the “The Success Principles:  How to get from where you are to where you want to be.”  I had the chance to have him sign his book – “The Success Principles” which is a excellent must have book for everyone to read and have.  The next Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic – Food and Nutrition Conference Expo is going to be in Philadelphia.  Hope to see you there!
