Ever wonder about how it would be to eat at a five-star restaurant and drink tasty mix alcohol beverages. Well if the Buick Discovery Tour with Food and Wine Magazine comes to your town make sure you have time to stop by. I had the chance to be an audience member see alot of the famous chefs in action and test drive a wonderful car – Buick Verano at the Loews Hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Chef Hugh Acheson – the author of A NEW TURN IN THE SOUTH: Southern Flavors Reinvented for Your Kitchen and chef/partner of the Athens, Georgia, restaurants Five and Ten and The National, and the Atlanta restaurant Empire State South. He is also Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, Season 3 and currently stars as a judge on Top Chef. He was named Best Chef by Food and Wine Magazine. Chef Acheson had the chance to serve us his taste salad – Roasted Carrot & Beet Salad with Feta, Pulled Parsley and Cumin Vinaigrette. I had a chance speak with Chef Hugh Acheson and talk about the healthier ways of southern cooking. It is great to see a Georgia Youthful Chef is taking a stand of cooking good nutrients rich foods and not high fat foods.
Chef Ben Roche is a new up incoming chef that is best known for new eclectic desserts. Chef Roche is Pastry Chef in Moto Restaurant in Chicago, IL and co-host of the series ‘Future Food’ on Discovery’s Planet Green network. Chef Roche made a bacon flavored ice cream by using liquid nitrogen! Wow that was incredible sight to see! Gotta check out his show!! Then Chef Roche made S’Mores Bomb with a marshmallow wick to light the flame with!! Man that was cool to see and very tasty to eat.
Next came the exclusive Wine and Spirits Consultant Expert – Micheal Green who makes it fun sampling wine and very interesting. We were able to sample 2010 Rodney Strong Charlotte’s Home Sauvignon Blanc Estate Vineyards and 2009 M. Chapoutier Cotes-Du-Rhone Belleruche Rouge. Mr. Green discuss about the proper ways of taste testing wine with certain foods to achieve the best flavor of the wines. We learn how to use our senses and our palate to appreciate great tasting wines.
Last but not least is the Master Celebrity Chef Ming Tsai who took us around the world to China for Chinese gourmet dishes. Master Chef Ming Tsai, owner of the Blue Ginger outside of Boston and producer of his own show – Simply Ming. One of the dishes that we had tasted was the Sweet and Sour Mango Pork which Chef Ming Tsai gave us a copy of this delicious recipe. At the end of the cooking show we had a chance to get Chef Ming Tsai newest cookbook “East meets West”. What a way to end the day!
